It was a very Hot one to start The Fuzion Washington 500. First race up was the 150 lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models. The car count was not one of the best we have ever had but 10 cars did show up & start the race and after a very long and hard fought battle what seemed to last for the whole 150 laps, John Zaretzke over took Jeff Knight for the Top Honor. Jeff Knight took 2nd followed by James Mugge (3).

Next up was the NASCAR Whelen All American Street Stock Division with a 75 lap feature. Lane Sundholm took the pole and never relinquished that spot to continue his first place win streak. 2nd place was taken by the hard charging Darrel Lutovsky and coming in the 3rd place Frank Cowgill.

The Inaugural Triple Crown 175 lap main event had only 6 cars taking the green flag. Pete Harding took charge of this race & after the 90 lap break Pete Harding never looked back. Pete’s lead was eaten up a bit by the hard charging car of Naima Lang but in the end Harding was able to hold of Lang & take the 1st Triple Crown podium following in the 2nd position Naima Lang & 3rd place went to John Zaretzke. The second round of The Triple Crown is scheduled for August 21st & the finale set for September 18th.

After many, many long hours & very hard work, our driver #54 Tim Widener was finally back onto the track with a puzzled pieced together car. After taking 3 practice laps to see how the NEW car would feel, the hood flew off & crashed into 3 pieces to start the day. We started the 75 lap main event in the 7th position, after running the same lap times as the leaders going into turn 4 with 16 laps left the engine just shut down and that ended our night of racing. After tearing the motor apart we found out we broke a Rocker Stud. The 5/8’s track has taken its toll on us this year but we are determined to continue our quest on making the rest of the racing season, including 1 more race on the 5/8’s on September 11.

Racing for the Cure Night, turned out to be a night for great crowds & great weather on top of great racing. It was the first time on the 5/8’s track for both the Super Late Model & Street Stock divisions. 75 lap Super Late Model race turned out 11 cars. The race went on without any cautions, Jeff Knight & Naima Lang were trying to catch the leader for many laps but in the end Tom Moriarity was able to hold them off and take top honors for the night. Next up was the 40 lap Street Stock Division. 13 Cars came out for the race; it also was a race that went caution free. Lane Sundholm took the lead around lap 10 & never lost that lead and once again became the victor but not after having to fend off the hot charging car of Jill Lang. This was the second week that Lane has taken the top honors for the main event.

Our driver, Tim Widener #54 ended up in the 5th position. The car was good but we made the wrong adjustment, on the way of a sway bar, so the car did not run as fast as it had in the heat race, which we finished 2nd. Tim battled with the #8 car of AJ Baxter & after about 10 laps finally got around him to try & hunt down the leaders, but the gap between Tim & the leaders proved to be too much for Tim to hunt down before the race ended. The Street Stock Division will again be racing on the 5/8’s track on Sat May 22.
